Needlework, Nature, and a Sea of Blue: Spring Trends from The World of Interiors

Flipping through the March issue of The World of Interiors, I noticed some recurring themes.

For those unfamiliar, The World of Interiors is a highly regarded magazine showcasing a mix of high-end and more affordable design.

While their definitions of "high" and "low" might differ from mine (and I can't recall seeing a home exactly like mine in its pages), it's undeniably glorious eye candy.

Needlework Takes Center Stage

Gone are the days of needlework relegated to the background. Now, beautiful vintage and modern embroidery and cross-stitch pieces are making a statement.

Delicate florals, moody vines, mystical mushrooms, and bold geometric patterns are all captivating the eye.

A Sea of Blue

Blue takes center stage in a myriad of stunning shades. Icy hues like Sherwin-Williams' color of the year, Upward, grace walls, while sapphire blues adorn furniture.

Deep teals and rich navy blues create a luxurious, moody atmosphere, while crisp blue and white combinations adorn tableware. From Caribbean and sky blues to grayed tones, blue appears everywhere: walls, linens, upholstery, rugs, and artwork.

Cream and various wood tones, from the darkest walnut to the palest natural wood, beautifully complement this spectrum of blues.

Nature's Invitation Indoors

Nature finds its way inside through painted birds, mushroom lamps, lion statues, leafy artwork, herons adorning vases, horses on tapestries, sparrows embellishing vintage furniture, and even marble duck bookends.

My Conclusion

While replicating the exact items and scale showcased in these spacious, extravagant homes might not be feasible, we can certainly incorporate these elements at a scale and intensity that feels right for our own "regular" sized spaces.
