You name it, and I've probably had a whirlwind romance with it at some point. But there's something I've noticed as we delve into the magical world of design: it seems like successful designers sometimes forget about the rest of us, you know, those living in typical homes.

Don't get me wrong; who doesn't love gawking at million-dollar homes, marveling at how they play with colors, what furniture they pick, the exquisite tablescapes they create, and even the artful arrangement on their mantles? I mean, can you picture yourself in a house with not one but three kitchen islands? Yeah, me neither.

I mean, my place has eight-foot ceilings, a standard 3/2 floor plan, about 1500 square feet of space, and not a single intriguing architectural detail to speak of.
